The Delhi High Court has granted interim permission to JNTL Consumer Health to sell its ₹180 crore stock of ORSL, despite the FSSAI’s recent ban on using ‘ORS’ on any beverage not meeting WHO standards. This ruling follows an eight-year legal battle led by paediatrician Dr. Sivaranjani Santosh, who argued that these high-sugar drinks mislead consumers, particularly parents, and pose health risks to children. The court’s order offers temporary relief to JNTL, which challenged the sudden ban, but public health advocates and Dr. Santosh are strongly urging the FSSAI to move quickly to enforce strict compliance to protect consumer safety.
