असम विधानसभा ने बहुविवाह पर प्रतिबंध लगाने के लिए एक विधेयक गुरुवार (27 नवंबर 2025) को पारित किया. इस कानून के तहत अगर कोई ऐसा करता है तो उसे अपराध माना जाएगा और कुछ अपवादों को छोड़कर इसके लिए अधिकतम 10 वर्ष की कैद हो सकती है. साथ ही पीड़ित को 1.40 लाख रुपये मुआवजा देने का भी प्रावधान है.
The Assam Assembly passed a bill on Thursday (November 27, 2025) banning polygamy. Under this law, anyone practicing polygamy will be considered a crime and, with some exceptions, can face a maximum of 10 years in prison. It also provides for compensation of ₹1.40 lakh to the victim.
