A 23-year-old accused — identified as Salman — in the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl in Goharganj, Raisen district (Madhya Pradesh), was shot in the leg by police while attempting to escape custody. According to police, the incident occurred when the transport vehicle got punctured near Kiratnagar village, and during the transfer, the accused grabbed a sub-inspector’s firearm, fired at officers and tried to flee. In response, police fired back — wounding him and immediately hospitalizing him for treatment.
