VLC can increase the volume up to 200%, but your speakers have a natural limit. A speaker can play sound only up to its physical capacity. An amplifier normally makes weak signals louder. But VLC does not change your speaker’s power. It only boosts the digital audio inside the file. It multiplies the numbers and increases the amplitude. This makes the sound louder, but it also causes clipping. Clipping cuts the extra parts of the sound wave. This creates distortion and a harsh noise. So VLC sounds loud, but the quality drops. It can even damage speakers.
