A shocking case from Maharashtra’s Latur district has left many stunned. Ganesh Chavan allegedly murdered a hitchhiker to fake his own death and claim a ₹1 crore term insurance payout. A burnt car with a charred body initially led police to believe Chavan was dead, and even his family mourned him. However, investigators soon discovered that Chavan was alive and secretly messaging a female friend from another phone. Police tracked his location from Kolhapur to Vijaydurg, where he was arrested. The victim was identified as Govind Yadav, a hitchhiker who was reportedly intoxicated. A murder case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
