Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Aravalli Hills issue, specifically concerning the definition of the hill range. India Today Legal Correspondent Anisha Mathur reports that the Apex Court is set to hear the matter tomorrow, Monday. The move follows widespread protests and concerns raised by environmentalists over the court’s earlier November 20 order, which accepted the CEC’s proposed definition limiting Aravalli recognition to hills of 100m height. Mathur notes, ‘A lot of concerns have been raised by environmentalists, by activists, by residents, that this is going to completely allow decimation of the Aravalli hills.’ The bench may consider referring the matter to a larger bench or modifying the order.
