Peter Navarro, a trade advisor to Donald Trump, has sparked controversy once again with his recent remarks questioning why the United States is bearing the resource costs for Artificial Intelligence used in India. In an interview with Steve Bannon on ‘Real America’s Voice,’ Navarro argued that platforms like ChatGPT operate on American soil using American electricity and infrastructure to serve millions of users in India, China, and across the globe. Beyond AI, he also raised concerns about foreign entities purchasing U.S. agricultural land at inflated prices, warning of a potential surge in domestic food costs. This incident adds to Navarro’s history of provocative statements regarding India, which include labeling India’s oil trade with Russia as “blood money,” calling the country a “laundromat” for Russian resources, and making derogatory remarks about specific Indian communities—comments that the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has previously dismissed as unacceptable and damaging to the bilateral relationship.
