Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, known for his comic roles in films like Phir Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Chup Chup Ke, has recently surrendered to Tihar Jail in Delhi in connection with a longstanding ₹9 crore cheque-bounce and debt case. The case dates back to 2010, when Yadav reportedly took a ₹5 crore loan to finance his directorial project Ata Pata Laapata, which later flopped at the box office. The unpaid loan, plus accumulated interest and penalties, is now said to be around ₹9 crore. Multiple cheques he issued in attempts to settle this debt bounced, leading to criminal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
