Congress faces another major setback in poll-bound Assam as sitting MP Pradeep Bordoloi announces his resignation to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. The joining ceremony is scheduled at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Delhi residence. Along with Bordoloi, Assam Congress vice president Navajyoti Talukdar is also set to join the BJP. Talukdar cited objections to Congress leader Imran Masood, the Saharanpur MP handling Assam Congress affairs, as the reason for the exit. Talukdar questioned Masood’s credentials, alleging he refused to sing Vande Mataram and compared Hamas with Bhagat Singh. Additionally, Talukdar claimed that a person who attempted to kill Pradeep Bordoloi is associated with a leader protected by Masood. Sources indicate Bordoloi held conversations with Home Minister Amit Shah and met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Bordoloi camp suggests he may contest the Assam Assembly elections on a BJP ticket, with an announcement expected after his formal joining.
