TVK leader Aadam Arjuna first floated the idea, stating Perambur represents original Chennai with many poor people. The urban constituency, with its young population, appears strategically chosen after internal surveys. Meanwhile, sources indicate NDA ally AIADMK is upset with BJP allegedly offering 80 seats to TVK for the upcoming polls. Sources say BJP has now slashed the offer to 40 seats as hectic bids continue to bring Vijay under the NDA fold. For DMK, defending Perambur is about prestige given its proximity to Stalin’s constituency. For Vijay, winning the DMK bastion could prove a major turning point in his political career.
