The United States has granted temporary immunity to Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf amid negotiation attempts between the US and Iran, according to Israeli media reports. The diplomatic immunity, expected to remain in place for at least five days, covers the full duration of the current negotiation round with Tehran. Iranian Speaker Ghalibaf is being backed by Trump as the next Supreme Leader of Iran and has reportedly fronted back-channel talks with the US. Ghalibaf, perceived as more pragmatic than other Iranian leaders, has been reportedly negotiating with the US for over a decade. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi may get a pardon as the US hopes to use him if Mojtaba is dethroned. Araghchi, a key negotiator of nuclear curbs, will also be a key character in US talks with Iran. Neither Washington nor Tel Aviv has officially responded to these reports.
