The number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in Maharashtra witnessed a sharp rise in the last 24 hours with state authorities reporting as many as 15 new cases. Out of these, 14 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai and 1 in Pune. As of March 23, the number of total confirmed cases in Maharashtra stands at 89.
Authorities also revealed that 8 of these 15 people, who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, are acquaintances of people who tested positive earlier. Apart from these, 4 of the recently discovered patients have a travel history to countries affected by Covid-19.
This development comes a day after a second person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Maharashtra died at a hospital in Mumbai on Sunday. At present, the Covid-19 death toll in India stands at 7 with two in Maharashtra, and one each in Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat and Bihar.
