Trump’s deadline regarding this blockade is set to expire in 30 minutes. Yet, prior to this deadline, Hamid Reza Haji Babaei, the Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, has described the Strait of Hormuz as Iran’s “nuclear bomb.” This implies that should a blockade of shipping vessels be implemented, Iran will not remain passive; such a scenario would have a direct and immediate impact on the world’s most critical energy lifeline, as approximately 20% of the global supply of oil and gas passes through this vital waterway.
