Two people, including a former Indian Army soldier, were killed and at least two others injured in a suspected militant ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on April 18. The attack occurred on the Imphal-Ukhrul road when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a convoy. The incident came just a day after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s visit to the region under the ‘Journey for Peace’ campaign. Security forces have launched search operations, while local bodies condemned the attack and warned of retaliation. The violence adds to the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur, which have claimed over 260 lives since May 2023.
