A fatal road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district has claimed the lives of at least 22 people, with several others critically injured. The incident occurred around 10 am near Khagot village in the hilly Ramnagar area when a passenger bus lost control at a sharp curve, crashed into a parapet, and rolled down into a gorge. Local residents were the first responders, assisting multiple security agencies in rescuing and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities confirmed that the bus was not overloaded and an investigation into the crash is underway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Governor Manoj Sinha, and MP Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed their condolences. Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased, and 50,000 rupees for those injured. Medical officers and police officials are coordinating to ensure the best treatment for the victims.
