During the first phase of polling in West Bengal, incidents of violence have been reported across multiple constituencies. In Birbhum’s Labpur, Biswajit Mandal, the election agent for BJP candidate Debasish Ojha, was attacked in the Brahmarkhol Panchayat area. Mandal sustained a head injury and his car was vandalized after allegedly being targeted with sticks and stones. He has been admitted to a local health center for treatment. The BJP has accused Trinamool Congress workers of orchestrating the attack, an allegation the TMC has categorically denied. Similar clashes were reported in other parts of the state. In Asansol, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul’s vehicle was vandalized, while sporadic violence involving TMC and BJP cadres occurred in Murshidabad. Amid the escalating situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the developments from the BJP headquarters. Despite heightened security deployment intended to ensure peaceful voting, these back-to-back incidents have heightened tensions during the ongoing elections in West Bengal.
