US President Donald Trump and the first lady Melania Trump were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after gunshots interrupted the event, according to the US Secret Service. In a statement, the Secret Service said it was investigating “a shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” adding that “the president and first lady are safe along [with] all protectees.” It said the condition of others involved was not yet known and that law enforcement was “actively assessing the situation.” A suspect is in custody.
