After weeks of global attention and concern, the humpback whale nicknamed Timmy has finally been released back into the open sea! Stranded since early March in shallow waters near Wismar, Germany — far from its Atlantic home — Timmy’s health deteriorated with skin issues due to low salinity. A private rescue initiative, backed by the state environment minister, transported the whale 70 km offshore near Denmark’s Skagen coast. Rescuers attached a GPS tracker before setting him free.
