The incident occurred amid allegations of post-poll violence following the Bharatiya Janata Party securing a majority in Bengal. A Trinamool Congress parliamentarian took to social media, alleging that the bulldozer was brought in with police permission to demolish meat shops as part of victory celebrations, while Central Armed Police Forces stood by. However, local businessmen and residents refuted the meat shop claims, stating the demolished structure was an illegal construction that had been converted into a Union party office. Following the vandalism, panicked traders shut their shops and fled the area. Police were immediately deployed to patrol the locality and bring the situation under control. The incident highlights ongoing clashes despite warnings from the state Bharatiya Janata Party leadership and the party’s top brass against indulging in post-poll violence and vandalism.
