S. Keerthana was unable to take oath as an MLA in the Tamil Nadu Assembly because she did not produce her mandatory Certificate of Election. This certificate, issued by the Returning Officer after an election victory, is required before any elected member can be sworn in. Assembly officials stopped the process and her oath was postponed until she presents the document. The incident has drawn attention because Keerthana is the youngest and only woman minister in Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s cabinet.
