The West Bengal Chief Minister has issued a warning that stone pelting will be eradicated from the state. The announcement follows recent incidents in Kolkata, specifically in the Park Circus and Raja Bazaar areas, where protests occurred over government decisions regarding bulldozer actions and an embargo on loudspeakers during religious occasions. During the demonstrations on May 17, the situation escalated, leading to vandalism and stone pelting. Police personnel utilised mild force to bring the situation under control, resulting in the arrest of over twenty individuals. The Chief Minister attributed past police inaction to the political bias of the previous administration and stated that law enforcement will now act strictly according to the law. Furthermore, an extension of central forces in the state has been requested to maintain order. The administration has emphasised that while citizens have the right to protest peacefully, any attempts to disrupt law and order or target police officials will face legal consequences.
