The situation regarding offering *Namaz* (prayers) on public roads in Uttar Pradesh is crystal clear: prayers will not be permitted on the streets. However, on the occasion of Bakri Eid, some members of the Muslim community are seeking an exception to this rule. They argue that a concession of 15 minutes should be granted. “What is wrong with that?” they ask. In Aligarh, while pressing for precisely this demand, an AIMIM leader made certain remarks that have now landed him in deep trouble. Consequently, a heated debate is currently underway regarding whether this insistence on offering prayers on public roads could ultimately prove costly for the community.
