A local Trinamool Congress leader in Howrah, West Bengal, has been arrested after being found hiding beneath a pile of sarees inside a cloth shop storeroom. The leader faced public anger and police complaints over allegations of collecting illegal commissions, or cut money, linked to government housing scheme funds. Fearing arrest, the leader attempted to evade the police by hiding in the storeroom. This incident follows a similar crackdown in the state, including an earlier case in Cooch Behar where another party leader hid under a bed to escape a mob over similar allegations of extortion and scams.
