A bizarre case from Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur has grabbed headlines. Police had claimed that gold jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore, kept as case property in a police station storeroom, was damaged by rain and later scattered by monkeys after being placed on the roof to dry. The astonishing explanation was presented before the court, which questioned how such valuable evidence could be left unattended in the open.
