LIVE | Rajdhani | The Modi government is set to bring back the controversial 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which could change the rules of Indian politics. The proposed bill states that if a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Minister is arrested in a serious criminal case carrying a punishment of five years or more and remains in custody for 30 consecutive days, they may have to step down from their post.
The bill sparked a massive political debate when it was introduced, with the Opposition accusing the government of targeting elected leaders and misusing investigative agencies. The controversy gained attention after cases involving leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren highlighted the question of whether a jailed leader can continue holding office.
In this video, we analyse what the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill means, why the Opposition is opposing it, how it could impact opposition parties as well as NDA allies, and what challenges the Modi government faces in getting it passed in Parliament.
