How did the fall of Constantinople change the course of world history? Why were European powers forced to search for a direct sea route to India? In this episode of Masterji in the Newsroom, UPSC teacher Avadh Ojha explains how the closure of the traditional trade routes after Constantinople came under Ottoman control pushed European explorers to find new maritime routes. This quest eventually led to Vasco da Gama’s arrival in India and marked the beginning of European colonial expansion.
