Senior advocate Kapil Sibal announced a contribution of ₹1 crore from his personal end to establish a dedicated legal defense fund managed by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP). Speaking at a press conference hosted alongside representatives of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, Sibal clarified that the money will strictly be utilized to provide pro bono legal support to students and peaceful protesters targeted across various states including Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. He voiced concerns over the alleged misuse of technology, warning that Delhi Police might use facial recognition software and communal bias to harass protesters and their families. Sibal stressed that the ongoing movement transcends class, creed, and religion for national improvement. Legal representatives provided state-level updates, alleging police brutality in Bihar with ‘attempt to murder’ FIRs registered in Patna, along with selective targeting of minority communities in Kolkata and arrests of lawyers in Assam.
