The US-India trade tensions could escalate as the US Senate passes a bill that could empower President Donald Trump to impose up to 100% additional tariffs on countries buying Russian oil and gas, including India and China. The bill, however, does not impose any tariff on India yet. It must clear the House of Representatives and be signed by Trump before becoming law. The move is aimed at increasing pressure on Russia over the Ukraine war. India remains a major buyer of Russian crude oil, citing energy security and national interests.
