The Dangawas Dalit violence case of 2015 has once again come into focus after a court acquitted all 40 accused nearly 11 years after the violence. On May 14, 2015, a violent clash broke out in Dangawas village of Rajasthan’s Nagaur district amid a long-running dispute over 23 bighas and 5 biswas of agricultural land. Several people were killed and many others were injured. The Rajasthan government later handed the investigation over to the CBI.
After years of investigation and trial, the SC-ST Special Court in Merta acquitted all 40 accused on August 5, 2026. But the verdict has raised several questions. What exactly happened in Dangawas in 2015? What did the CBI investigation find? Why did the court acquit all 40 accused? What happened to the evidence and witness statements? And will the victims’ families challenge the verdict in the High Court?
Watch the full story of the Dangawas violence, the land dispute, the CBI investigation, the court verdict and the victims’ long fight for justice.
