In an interview with India Today, Saurav Das, co-convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, rejected the Delhi Police affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court regarding the July 20 protests. Das criticized the police response, accusing them of using excessive force, aiming batons at protesters’ heads, and concealing details about who authorized pellet guns. He stated, “They lie in the affidavit. They mislead the court in the affidavit.” Addressing claims that 200 police officers were injured, Das contended the injuries were mostly minor soft-tissue cases and accused the police of exaggerating facts. He further alleged that the Centre is reluctant to honor commitments to quash FIRs against young protesters, despite Supreme Court suggestions under Article 142. Das asserted that while his party is not a direct petitioner, they will cooperate only with an independent high-powered committee of unimpeachable credibility.
