Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Bishkek has drawn attention from the US. Days after the meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned countries against helping Iran bypass American sanctions or creating ways for Tehran to generate revenue. Rubio said he does not believe India and Iran are working on a new trade deal, while acknowledging India’s right to conduct its own foreign policy. The meeting covered India-Iran relations, the West Asia conflict, peace and diplomacy. Iran has rejected US sanctions and urged India to use its diplomatic influence to help reduce tensions in the region.
