इंसान के लालच ने धरती का तापमान इस कदर बढ़ा दिया कि ध्रुवों पर जमी बर्फ पानी बनकर अब हमें ही लेलने को तैयार है। यूएन की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक 20वीं सदी के मुकाबले वैश्विक समुद्र स्तर की वृद्धि दर अब दोगुनी हो चुकी है। 2014 से 2023 के बीच जहां समंदर हर साल 4.7 मि.मी. बढ़ रहा था। वहीं पिछले साल यानी 2024 में इसने सारे रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिए हैं और 5.9 मि.मी. की छलांग लगाई। समंदर का ये बढ़ता जलस्तर पानी नहीं बल्कि तटीय शहरों के लिए मौत की चेतावनी है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र की एक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया कि समुद्र का बढ़ता जलस्तर अब कोई दूर का खतरा नहीं इसकी रफ्तार भी बढ़ रही है।
