In an interview from New York, world-renowned economist and policy analyst Professor Jeffrey Sachs discussed global geopolitics, multilateralism, and India’s strategic future. Sachs argued that the BRICS alliance must serve as a defender of the United Nations and the multilateral system rather than an anti-Western bloc. Highlighting demographic and economic trajectories, he maintained that India is not threatened by China and urged both nations to settle their historic border dispute. Sachs firmly advised India against aligning with Western security alliances, asserting, “India should leave the Quad, period.” He also warned against strategic reliance on Israel and the United States, pointing to the economic pivot towards Asia and Africa. Outlining three key priorities for BRICS, Sachs called for stopping conflicts, transitioning to a multicurrency payment system to resist unilateral sanctions, and strengthening an independent United Nations.
