The Election Commission has responded to questions over letters written by two Election Commissioners to the Cabinet Secretary. The letters came amid concerns surrounding the functioning of the Commission’s IT Division and the allocation of work within the organisation.
The Indian Express investigation reported concerns about the centralisation of the electoral roll database and access to the ECINet system. The Election Commission has said that the Cabinet Secretary correspondence was not related to any policy matter of the Commission or its IT Division, but concerned an officer on deputation. The EC has also said that the work redistribution orders were not implemented and oversight of the IT Division by the Deputy Election Commissioner was never withdrawn.
