Kamala Harris has made history as she becomes the first Black woman to formally accept a spot on a major party’s presidential ticket in the United States. Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president on Wednesday as she asked Americans to elect Joe Biden in November in an emotive speech.
In her speech, Kamala Harris mixed her polish as a former prosecutor with deeply personal tales of her upbringing to argue that she and Joe Biden can rejuvenate a country ravaged by a pandemic and deeply divided by partisan bitterness. However, Kamala Harris’ speech at the Democratic National Convention took the Indian-American and Tamil Twitter by storm. Kamala used the Tamil word ‘chithi’ at the stage where she accepted the historic vice presidential nod for the White House. Tamil word ‘chithi’ means aunt.
