Four students have been expelled from Geyzing College as they were protesting against construction delay. The four students are Pravin Upreti, Praveen Basnett, Nakul Sharma, and Loknath Chettri. Sikkim govt led by CM PS Tamang termed these students as ‘anti-nationals’. Around 35 students studying at the Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing in western Sikkim reached Gangtok on February 2, 2021. Their demand was that the construction work of the government college should be completed quickly and to keep this in mind, they should be allowed only 20 minutes of meeting with the state education minister Kunga Neema Lepcha. Suddenly, police took action and took 18 students into custody at around 10 pm on February 5. Students claim that during this time, women protesters were abused and ‘physically assaulted’.
