In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of how the 1935 Government of India Act came to existence. Mahatma Gandhi’s Civil Disobedience movement laid the foundation for this act. After the failure of 3 round table conferences in 1930-32. The British’s were in a fix to solve the problem of dominion status for India. Mahatma Gandhi visited London for the second-round table conference in 1921 and met King George V. After the failure of all negotiations, Britain unilaterally passed the act in 1935.
