George Fernandes died on January 29, 2019. He was a veteran socialist leader and a legendary trade unionist. George started his political career in 1967. He contested Bombay south seat as samyukt socialist party candidate. He defeated heavyweight Congress leader SK Patil and gained the new name ‘George the giant killer.’
