I visited Kanpur ka Thag and Badnaam people hahaha
I am talking about having the infamously famous Badnaam Kulfi at Thaggu ke Ladoo. My experience was divine. Hope you will like the video. And as mentioned in the video, do read up about the interesting names, taglines and their story right here.
WHY THAGGU KE LADOO AND THE FUNNY TAGLINE?
Well, there is no more to the name than just a publicity gimmick to attract attention. When the original owner Mattha Pandey alias Ramavtar landed in Kanpur Around 60 years back,he had attended a speech of Mahatma Gandhi, where he called sugar ‘The White Poision’. Gandhiji’s words put him in a dilemma, as being a follower of Gandhi, he wondered how would he prepare a laddu without sugar? So he decided to be true to his customers and thus named his preparation “ Thaggu Ke Laddu”.
ABOUT BADNAAM KULFI
It is called Badnaam Kulfi as it is made and sold on the street and according to Mattha Pandey, anything that is selling on street is Badnaam…
Unlike most other Kulfis its whipped rather than just frozen and so it has a slightly Rabri like texture. The funny tagline goes like: “Mehmaan Ko Chakhana nahi , tik Jayega “.
Question is will any one deal with a person, who calls himself a Thag or Badnaam? The Answer should be a big Nooooooooo….
But that is not true in the case of Kanpur’s Famed “Thaggu Ke Laddu” where hundreds of people gather everyday to satiate there tingling taste buds.
So next time in Kanpur, do visit the Thag !!!
