Finally we had a winter in hamburg in 2012 with the usual temperatures: it was so cold the last 2 weeks that the Alster froze with an ice sheet of at least 20cm. Public authorities of Hamburg allowed to enter the ice – moreover they agreed to operate the very rare “Alstereisvergnügen” (= Alster Ice Festival) with stands around the lake for the first time after 15 years. I used the chance for a walk over the water and stopped by at a stand of some friends on the water’s edge.
