Singapore’s students consistently come top in international rankings, but the city state’s didactic teaching style does not always equip pupils with the skills they will need for the workplace of the future. The government is introducing reforms to align classroom with the needs of employers – adopting aspects of the Swiss system of apprenticeships alongside academic studies. Singapore is also introducing programmes to imbue workers with a culture of lifelong learning so they can handle the challenge of robot automation.
