In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of how India and Sri Lanka came to the peace accord table in 1987. The history of Tamil and Sinhalese conflict in Sri Lanka started long before its independence. The conflict arise due to the regional differences including language and religion. The majoritarian Sri Lanka Government made rules that resulted in protest which turned into violent groups in 1970’s. The peace accord with india was a major stepping stone in hindsight but it failed due to several reasons that include the failure of Indian intelligence.
