The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions that has been leading the protest against the three farm laws, called a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Lucknow on Monday.
The mahapanchayat had been planned before PM Modi announced that the Centre had decided to repeal the laws on Friday. At a meeting on Sunday, the farmers decided to proceed with the mahapanchayat as planned. Farmers gathered for the programme in large numbers to press for their demand for a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP), among other things.
