In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about about how Alauddin Khilji became the emperor of Delhi. Alauddin Khilji was the second and arguably one of the most powerful ruler of the Khilji dynasty of Delhi Sultanate. He was nephew of first Khilji ruler Jalal-ud-Din Khilji. Jalal-ud-Din appointing him the governor of Awadh in 1292. During this time Alauddin strengthen his power and start plotting against the Delhi sultanate. In 1296 he killed Jalal-ud-Din Khilji and appointed himself as the ruler of Delhi. After becoming king, he attacked Chittor in 1303 and captured it. Malik Muhammad Jayasi in his poem Padmavat talks about Rani Padmini of Chittor committing Jauhar which is believed to be a fictional story by most scholars. Yet in 2018 when film Padmavat was released it led to a huge controversy. Watch complete video to know the real vs fiction.
