The Sri Lanka government is all set to introduce a national fuel quota scheme amid the economic crisis that the nation is battling.

Under the scheme, the government will allocate guaranteed weekly fuel quota per vehicle on one national ID card.

A QR code will be allocated once the vehicle chassis number and details are verified. The fuel will be allocated two days of the week on the basis of last digit of the number plate.

The steps are being taken as the situation in the island nation is slowly coming to normalcy after Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa sent his resignation letter on Thursday.

New fuel distribution mechanism is being worked out to prevent black marketing, hoarding and equal distribution of fuel for the people of Sri Lanka.

People in the country are experiencing kilometers-long queues for fuel refilling outside gas stations.
