Disney Hotstar has had the overall media rights of the famous cricket tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) and has enjoyed its monopoly for quite a while. But now Mukesh Ambani‘s Viacom 18 has acquired those rights and now IPL will be broadcasted on their OTT platform Voot.
In the larger scheme of things, this will increase the subscriber base for both Voot and content hungry Jio platforms. The question that remains is given the infrastructure overhauling, network fees, and other related costs, whether or not Viacom 18 will be able to break even during the life of contract.
