In this episode of Aarvam, Noopur and Akshita first discusses about the Kerala’s journalist Siddique Kappan, who is in jail under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Kappan’s 9 year old daughter Mehnaj Kappan delivered a speech on Independence day in her school. She said, ‘the freedom we enjoy is the result of struggle. Freedom of Indian citizens should not be taken away from them.’ In this session it is discussed that why is Kappan in jail? What is the meaning of such speech of his daughter and what does all this have to do with the Hathras rape case?
After this there was talk of an old painting of Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, which went viral on Twitter recently. Actually this painting was put on Twitter by a historian. He asked where did this painter sit and make this painting. After this he also answered it by putting a picture of Google Earth.
The next news was that the Andhra Pradesh government has issued orders to ban the use of some derogatory and abusive words towards the people of the barber Brahmin community. The barber Brahmin community belongs to the Backward Classes (BC) in Andhra Pradesh, and the words that have been banned refer to the work of barbers.
Akshita also called India Today’s bureau chief Nagarjuna in Karnataka. Nagarjuna told the story of Basavanna. Basavanna told about the foundation of Lingayat religion. Nagarjuna also told how different Lingayats are from Hindus.
