In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Expulsion of Indians from Uganda in 1972. Idi Amin after a coup in 1971, became the president of Uganda. Immediately after getting power, Idi amin started a tirade on Indophobic rhetoric. In August 1972, Idi Amin, ordered the expulsion of his country’s Asian minority, giving them 90 days to leave the country. Indians reached Uganda in 1892 when British east india Company recruited workers from the Punjab Province to work in construction of a railway line in Uganda. In time Indians became the most prosperous society in Uganda. Which led to resentment among local population. Amin later went to do mass murders and attacked the neighbouring country Tanzania.
