It has been claimed by the Governments that loans are being provided to the farmers at cheaper rates. However, an example of how farmers are trapped in the vicious cycle of this loan has come to the fore in Gujarat. State Bank of India (SBI) did not give NOC (No Objection Certificate) to a farmer just because he had a loan of only 31 paise outstanding. The farmer needed a certificate from the bank for a land deal. The matter reached the court for which the Gujarat High Court has strongly reprimanded the bank.
