This year India has the Presidency of SCO. This summit will be held in India on 3-4 July. A meeting of foreign ministers of SCO was held in Goa on 4-5 May 2023. SCO refers to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) headquartered in Shanghai, China. The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance that was founded in Shanghai in 2001 by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The organization aims to promote regional cooperation and stability, fight against terrorism, separatism, and extremism, and foster economic cooperation among its member states. India and Pakistan joined the organization as full members in 2017. The SCO is also engaged in dialogue with other countries and international organizations on issues of mutual interest.
At this year’s SCO FM meeting, the major highlight was Pakistan FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s visit. He became the first Pak foreign minister to visit India after Hina Rabbani Khar visited in 2012.
Taking aim at Pakistan at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Goa, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s position was called out and countered “as a promoter, justifier and spokesperson of a terrorism industry”.
